Introduction - Patrick...a story of creation.

My name is Albert. I am a letters-constitutional studies major here at OU and I am pre-med. During the summer time I sell books door-to-door in another state and I take pictures of funny things. I want to be a doctor/surgeon and one day co-found a business with my peers. I also eventually want to be married to a lovely wife and have 5 kids (3 boys, 2 girls, all spawned by me and my wife), 3 dogs (a pomeranian, a maltese, and an auzziedoodle), and a miniature pony, all by the time I'm 42. Anyways, that's enough about me.... Here is who and what the blog is really about...... *drum roll* PATRICK!!

The purpose of the blog is to reflect and meditate on Indian Epics through the perspective of Patrick Startrick, a wooden figurine I created in 10th grade. All reflections will be through the eyes of Patrick in the first person, with all mentions of me in the third person. Patrick was born my sophomore year in high school on accident. A friend of mine and I were designing a sculpture out of two pieces of wood. Both pieces failed, but from the rubble arose possibility. My friend ended up throwing his piece of wood away, but I saw potential with my half. At first the block looked potentially like a long sword. I shaved the piece and sanded it down into what later resembled a magnet shaped device. The final product was a wooden figurine that resembled Patrick Star from the popular show on Nickelodean, Spongebob Squarepants. I decided to paint the figurine a shade of pink and had another friend draw a face on him. Ever since then, like a child born from wedlock, our accident morphed into life of its own - thus spawned Project Patrick.

All photos were uploaded from my Phone

Project Patrick started off with just a few friends and I as we sought areas in our class schedule to bring "life" to Patrick. The concept of "life" was a very interesting topic to me as I was taking IB classes at the time - the idea of life both biologically and figuratively really drew my attention. I started taking pictures of Patrick both inside and outside of school in my daily activities as I pondered this question of life. A few examples of the integration is shown below.
Here this is Patrick Skyping with one of my friends
                                                  Patrick with a baby photo
Here Patrick is part of my Science Fair project
A rad picture of Patrick in my physics class with the Tesla Coil
Patrick at a Mexican Restaurant (Featuring my sister in the background)
Here Patrick is being sported by one of my friends as a pocket square
Also all these photos were taken from my phone

The project is quite amusing and as I grew older and my friends all started utilizing social media, there were eventually a few social media projects that were started as well such as his presence on instagram.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this blog as much as I enjoyed creating it.

  1. I love Patrick Star from SpongeBob! The other night I was watching classic moments of him from the show. I think its pretty funny how much detail you have put into him. I'm also impressed you were able to make him look so good. I'm excited to read more about Patrick as we get into the semester. Good luck with this class!

  2. Hey Albert. Whats Up! I feel like we lived together for two years or something. Seeing as I am familiar with the behaviors of Patrick Star and all of his shenanigans, I am looking forward to seeing what he has been up to lately. He needs a couple new outfits. Im sure I will see you around and have a great time in this course. Also, tell The Star hello.

  3. I am so glad you (or Patrick!) provided the backstory to help us understand the wild game you (and Albert) (or Patrick) (or whoever is reading the blog's comments!) will be playing with this class. I am enchanted! And how wonderful that you have documented Patrick from the beginning. Patrick before he became recognizably himself! I am guessing that just a tiny bit of Photoshop magic can put Patrick right into the heart of the epic battles, send him on a quest in the Himalayas, whatever kind of adventure suits the two of you, and I am really looking forward to seeing what happens! Does Patrick have a Twitter feed? If so, let me know. I will follow him. :-)

    1. Hi! He does have a Twitter but he doesn’t really use it at all! So most of Patrick’s thoughts will be on here until it’s not anymore!

  4. Hey Albert!

Love your creativity with this, it is so cool that you created Patrick from what was supposed to be a sword. I can definitely say I would never have thought to continue with Patrick. This reminds of moving Joy and Jack around the house in December! Patrick's adventures seem like they are going to be fun, I will definitely be keeping tabs! I cannot wait to hear what Patrick has to say in this blog.

  5. Hey Albert, we are in the same class I didn’t know you were in this class also. Now you might be thinking who am I right? Do you know Karan; I am his cousin Jay now you might know who I am. I was just making sure that you don’t think I am some weird dude because I don’t have my profile pic so you might not recognize who I am. Anyway it is a nice story how you made Patrick Star from wood that you were suppose to make sword, it was funny story. I have Twitter but I haven’t used it in 3 years, it’s eating dust. If I did use Twitter then I would have follow him. Good luck in the class.

  6. Hi Albert, this is Naomee! Carlo told me you were in this class too! Are you excited for the semester?! When I hear anything about the show, Spongebob Squarepants, I reminisce on joy-filled childhood memories. I love your idea of putting Patrick Star in charge of narrating the stories. It brings quite a creative zing to your blog. I look forward to reading your blog posts!

  7. Hi Albert!

I love how it seems that something that began as an inside joke took off! I love your little armless Patrick Star! It's refreshing to see a pre-med student with a sense of humor... once pre-med myself, I found the company to be quite serious. So, do you take Patrick everywhere, hoping for a good photo op? If you're a traveler, taking him along would be a nice way to document your travels! I'm sure Patrick would love to travel the world, right? Or, at least, come along for your experiences at medical school. Although, you might want to leave him out of those gross anatomy labs...

    1. Haha I do take him around! All my photos are random photos of him around. He's only been outside the United States twice though in Canada and the Dominican Republic but there are many more adventures to come! I always wanted to do a weird blog like this to document my thoughts and this is a great opportunity to do that with this class! Thanks for the comment!

  8. Hey Albert! Spongebob Squarepants brought me a lot of joy as a child (and watching the earlier episodes still does, they really appeal to a wide audience!) so I'm excited to read about some of his exploits in your writings! It's neat how this all came from messing up with a block of wood. As Bob Ross would say, "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents".

  9. Hey Albert! I absolutely love the idea that this whole project will be seen from the eyes of a Patrick Star like character. SpongeBob was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and I still quote it all the time. Patrick truly is the greatest and wisest sage of our time. Good luck this semester!

  10. Hey Albert! Your blog idea is very creative and an interesting concept that I haven't seen on blogs for this class so far. I am excited to read one of your stories written in this style. I really liked that you included the backstory for your blog and it helps for people to understand why you would want to go this route. I hope you have fun with your blog!

    1. Hi Albert! This is really amusing and I haven't seen this type of blog post as of yet! I had to do a similar project in middle school where I had to carry around a gingerbread man and take photos of its adventures with me. Your blog reminded me of my project which I did a LONG LONG time ago! Yay for re-visiting memories! I cannot wait to read more of your posts, in Patrick's perspective of course. I hope you have a great semester!

  11. Hey Albert!
First off, I really like the design and layout of your blog. As a kid I was a huge SpongeBob Square pants fan so I think your blog is great! Also, I thought the personal photos you added into your introduction were a nice touch! I think the approach of having your blog posts be from the perspective of Patrick Star is a really unique concept. I hope you are having a good semester so far and I can’t wait to see what you post next to your blog!

  12. Hi Albert! I am thoroughly impressed by the Patrick theme here. I admire your passion to be humorous in your stories and to create a sense of lightheartedness about your blog. Everything is super organized and well put! Your writing is also very well thought out and written with excellence. Thanks for sharing with us and I hope you have a great week 8!

  13. Hi Albert this is really entertaining! It's definitely different than anything I have seem in this class so far, but reading your reasoning why you chose to write from Patrick's perspective oddly makes sense. This blog is a lot more lighthearted than some of the other ones, and I look forward to reading some of you stories.

  14. Hi Albert! This introduction post is really funny as it is so much different than all the other introduction posts I've seen. I grew up watching Spongebob and would be lying if I don't still occasionally YouTube some episodes. Can't wait to read more of your blog posts!

  15. Hi Albert! I really enjoyed your introduction post. It was really entertaining and unique compared to most from this class! I was very impressed by your detailed life plans that even had your children selected haha. It's crazy that we are in week 10, and I haven't met you. I am excited to read more of your posts!

  16. Hi Albert, your Patrick Startrick is definitely something fun to write about, and hopefully has provided you with a unique perspective about the course material up to this point. I am looking forward to going forward from here and seeing how you incorporate this dynamic into your work and what unique style it has generated.

  17. Hey Albert/Patrick, this seems like a fun idea. What started out as a fun project between friends turned into something you can still connect with as you get older and might be seeing less of each other. From the first photo, I wasn't sure if the wooden blocks would really look like Patrick when you were done, but it does. And it looks amazing! I am excited to get to read stories from Patrick's perspective if I remember correctly he was not the brightest citizen in Bikini Bottom. I wonder how he will interpret Indian Epics. Good luck in your classes this semester.

  18. Nice to meet your Albert!
I just got done reading your introduction, and I have to say that it is probably the best thing I have ever read. You took a wooden Patrick Star and Flat Stanley'd him. I also love how you have kept at this for so many years. I actually believe that he is an integral part of your life now.

  19. Hi there Albert!
I really love this introduction! I have to agree with Zach above, this is one of the best things I've ever seen. It takes a lot of dedication to incorporate Patrick Star into so many facets of your life like this. You're definitely taking some extra effort to make Patrick part of Indian epics, and I applaud that effort!

  20. Hey Albert!! I hope everything is going well this semester! I have not seen you or Carlo in such a long time but I hope your classes and life are treating you well this semester. I enjoyed reading how you have your future life planned to a T. I hope your future wife agrees to everything! Also, I enjoyed how you told us the story behind Patrick Startrick and how he is going to be your main focus for this whole course. This was such a creative Introduction so kudos to you, Albert! Way to go!

  21. Hi Albert,
I literally am laughing out loud haha. I love how random Patrick is and I like how you made him part of your story for this class. Congrats on wanting to become a doctor. There is no way I could ever be one...blood...ew. I hope you have a great rest of the semester with Patrick. Good luck.

  22. Hey Albers, It was so funny to see all of those pictures and read about the whole Patrick Startrick fiasco. I have to admit you had me chuckling a little bit looking at the photos. This is definitely one of my favorite intro post so there ya go haha. Anyways hope you have a good rest of your semester!

  23. Hey Albert, or errrrm Patrick? I don't know, so hey to both of you! I love that you decided to use Patrick's perspective for this class and I'm sure it'll be hilarious to read stories from his point of view. I have a little plastic robot that dances when you turn the key on his back. My stepdad got him in a goody bag from some IT conference and gave him to me. He used to have his own Instagram, like Patrick, but now Godfrey (the robot) just makes cameos in my snapchats dancing to different songs. Its a lot of fun to put him in different situations like you do with Patrick.

  24. Hi, Albert!
You seem to have your life perfectly mapped out and that is impressive! I am so indecisive that I could never plan out what dogs I wanted before I was 42! Your Patrick idea and creation are super creative and funny! It was a great way to add humor to your intro and stories going further. I cannot wait to read some!
